For the Dough:
- 1 ½ cup warm water
- 1 tbsp active dry yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ tsp salt
For the Sauce:
- 1 (28-ounce)can of crushed tomatoes
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Toppings:
- 1 cup shredded brick cheese
- ½ cup pepperoni slices
- ½ cup chopped yellow onion
- Optional: Get creative! Add green peppers, olives, mushrooms, or anything your heart desires!
Get the Dough Rising:
Wake up the yeast: Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in your mixer bowl (think bathwater temperature, not boiling!). Let it get bubbly for about 5 minutes.
Mix and Knead: Add flour, salt, sugar, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms. Knead by hand for a few minutes on a floured surface until it's soft and stretchy.
Let it Rise: Place the dough in a warm spot for 1 hour, until doubled in size. Imagine it getting all puffy for the pizza party!
Make the Sauce (While Dough Rises):
Simmer the Sauce: Heat olive oil, then cook minced garlic for 1 minute.
Italian Herbs: Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for 10 minutes, then cool slightly.
Preheat Oven to 450°F (230°C) and grease your baking pan.
Assemble and Bake:
Shape the Dough: Press the dough into a square baking pan (use a rolling pin or your hands).
Pre-Bake the Dough: After an hour, poke the dough with a fork and bake for 5 minutes.
Top It Up! Spread sauce, then add shredded cheese, pepperoni, onion, tomato slices, and any other toppings you love
Bake for 8-10 Minutes: Until the crust is golden brown and cheese is melted and bubbly.
Enjoy! Let cool slightly, slice, and devour your delicious homemade deep dish pizza!
