Jet's Pizza Recipe | Detroit-Style Pizza

Jet's Pizza is all about that Detroit-style deep dish life. Think square slices with a super thick, crispy crust that's somehow still fluffy on the inside. They layer on a tangy tomato sauce, shower it with melted cheese, and finish it all off with the crispy, salty perfection of pepperoni cups. It's basically a flavor explosion in every bite!

Equipment

  • 8x10 inch baking pan
  • Stainless-Steel Bowls
  • Box Cheese Grater
  • Measuring Cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Cutting Boards

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 ½ cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp salt

For the Sauce:

  • 1 (28-ounce)can of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Toppings:

  • 1 cup shredded brick cheese
  • ½ cup pepperoni slices
  • ½ cup chopped yellow onion
  • Optional: Get creative! Add green peppers, olives, mushrooms, or anything your heart desires!

Instructions

Get the Dough Rising:

  • Wake up the yeast: Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in your mixer bowl (think bathwater temperature, not boiling!). Let it get bubbly for about 5 minutes.
  • Mix and Knead: Add flour, salt, sugar, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms. Knead by hand for a few minutes on a floured surface until it's soft and stretchy.
  • Let it Rise: Place the dough in a warm spot for 1 hour, until doubled in size. Imagine it getting all puffy for the pizza party!

Make the Sauce (While Dough Rises):

  • Simmer the Sauce: Heat olive oil, then cook minced garlic for 1 minute.
  • Italian Herbs: Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for 10 minutes, then cool slightly.

Preheat Oven to 450°F (230°C) and grease your baking pan.

    Assemble and Bake:

    • Shape the Dough: Press the dough into a square baking pan (use a rolling pin or your hands).
    • Pre-Bake the Dough: After an hour, poke the dough with a fork and bake for 5 minutes.
    • Top It Up! Spread sauce, then add shredded cheese, pepperoni, onion, tomato slices, and any other toppings you love
    • Bake for 8-10 Minutes: Until the crust is golden brown and cheese is melted and bubbly.
    • Enjoy! Let cool slightly, slice, and devour your delicious homemade deep dish pizza!
